So like our first family dog we got was for Lil'nivas birthday. Her Uncle Bill got it for her when she turned 7. It was a black lab mixed with husky. We named her Maui and she was so active, and big. She would get excited and jump all over the kids, but they were only babies then, so they would get hurt or intimidated by her that they lost interest. Some times they were scared of her. So we got rid of her.
Our next family pet didnt come until 2 years after Maui. Big rich promised the kids if they would keep up on their chores, behave for the babysitter, the could get a cat.
So they held their end of the bargain, and we got Hilo in Portland when we were visiting family over the Memorial Weekend in 2004. We instantly knew he was ours and meant to be in our family. We raised him fromm a kitten.
So 2 more years went by and we thought we would try another dog. The kids were older and had proven to be more responsible, so we got a Beagle. Her name was Lani.
Now bringing her home to Hilo was very interesting. Lani would act more like a Cat, and Hilo would be more like the dog and chase her around, and totally bully her. As you can see in the picture, Hilo would totally bully her out of her own BED!
Like he would creep up, stop and chill for a second...then scoot closer, until finally he would be laying in it and she would be on the floor. He is very teritorial and not to mention easy to maintain. Lani got to hard for the kids. Picking up poop, taking her potty, bathing, playing with her, training her...it was way to much! So we got rid of her. It wasn't until 2 more years later, we got Kona. Another cat.He was just a kitten when we got him. Rich got him for lil'niva as a Welcome home gift. She stayed behind the year we were sealed in CA to spend time with her aunty Mona, and her cousins, but mainly to get a break from her siblings. At first Hilo would act as if he had no interest in the kitten, but over time that changed. We love our pets. I remember when Hilo first got let out of the house, Rich was so worried, he was pacing down the hallway, opening the doors to see if he came home..he had never been let out of the house before..I remember we called Aunty Karen and Uncle Dale about Hilo's disapperance..it was funny, so needless to say, we are attached to our kitties! Their family..which brings me to realize that we get an animal every 2 years..because this year for Fathers day/birthday, Greg got a dog. So read the next post.
